DR.HAUSCHKA VOLUME MASCARA REVIEW!

Dr. Hauschka “Volume Mascara” is hands down my FAVOURITE mascara of all time! Nothing compares. I’ve been using this wonderful mascara for around 4 years, and have no plans of stopping or venturing out to other brands. For those of you who think natural cosmetics don’t work… give it a try! It’s better than any other conventional mascara I have ever tried! Here’s my breakdown:

 PROS:

• Adds definition and volume to my lashes.
• Creamy, pigmented and goes on clump free
• Very build-able. Keep adding coats for more volume!
• Great for sensitive eyes (Like Mine).
• Contains nourishing ingredients: rose wax, beeswax, candelilla wax, neem leaf extract.
• Black tea & eyebright extracts help calm the sensitive eye area.
• Easy to remove. No tugging out your eyelashes.. huge plus!! I use coconut oil or castor oil and it does the trick.

CONS:

• Expensive: costs me $40 Canadian.. ouch!
• Accessibility: May be hard to find, depending where you live. (I buy it online at saffronrouge.com & have seen it at Wholefoods)

As you can see from the photos, the mascara looks quite natural on, yet adds a bit of drama. I’ll also mention it comes in three colours: Black, Aubergine and Pearl Anthracite. I always stick to classic black mascara, and have not tried any of the other colours.

So to sum it up, if you’re on a quest for an awesome natural mascara, definitely give this mascara a try. Also, Let me know what your favourite natural mascaras are and whether or not you’ve tried any Dr.Hauschka Mascaras.

HEALTHY HALLOWEEN SNACK IDEAS

When I was little my halloweens consisted of mini chocolate bars, sour candies, those little boxes of raisins, and MAJOR stomach aches…

Now my halloween consists of fruits and veggies carved into spooky figures, blood coloured fruit juices, no stomach pains and lots of smiles!

That being said, here are a few last minute “healthy” halloween snack ideas ♥

STUFFED JACK O’LANTERN PEPPERS

 Ingredients:

• Orange Bell Peppers

       Stuffing :

• Quinoa
• Black Beans
• Red Onions
• Cilantro
• Lime
• Cumin
• Chilli Powder
• Sea Salt + Pepper
• Hemp Seeds
  

Directions:

• Using a knife, cut off the top of bell pepper, remove seeds, and begin carving a face into the pepper with a knife.
• Combine all other ingredients for the stuffing
• Stuff the peppers with the quinoa mixture
• enjoy!

“BLOOD” SLUSHIE + EDIBLE EYEBALLS

Ingredients:

       Eyeballs:

• rambutan or lychee
• frozen cherries

       Slushie: 

• Pomegranate juice
• Frozen cherries
• Frozen blackberries    
  

   *  You can also use pure cherry or pomegranate juice for the drink. It looks super creepy and realistic!

      Directions:

       Slushie:

• Blend all slushie ingredients in a high speed blender

       Edible eyes:

• peel rambutan or lychee, take off skin, cut in half and remove pit
• cut a little piece of frozen cherry (to fit into the rambutan half) and stuff into the rambutan.
• put a few of the edible eyeballs onto a skewer and place in your  blood slushie/ fruit juice!

PUMKIN PIE SPICE “ICE CREAM” ( raw + vegan)

Bring out the pumpkin pie spices!! ♥

Here is one of my favourite raw/vegan Ice cream recipes. It’s extremely delicious and 100% guilt free! Eat it for breakfast or dessert 😉

    Ingredients:

• 3-4 Frozen bananas (Peel and freeze overnight)
• 4-5 Medjool Dates (soaked in a bit of water)
• pumpkin pie spices – fresh ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla
• coconut sugar (for garnishing)

    Directions:

• blend dates, small piece of fresh ginger + date soaking water
• Add in frozen bananas + rest of spices and blend again
• Top with coconut sugar and serve!

CRYSTAL HEALING + GEMSTONE JEWELRY COLLECTION

I LOVE collecting sterling silver, gemstone jewelry. I especially love collecting beautiful, bold, vintage rings ♥ I get so excited when I glance down at my hand and see a gorgeous shiny gemstone staring back at me!

My favourite place to find vintage jewelry at a decent price is http://www.etsy.com. I’ll admit it… I’m a bit of an Etsy fanatic! I can literally spend a whole night lusting over/favouriting the endless amount of items the shops have to offer. who can relate?

I only wear sterling silver, fine silver, gold, platinum, or copper jewelry. Many of the cheaper metals out there can contain lead, and other nasty stuff… not to mention they don’t last very long! I rather invest in good quality jewelry that I will have for life and can pass down to my children. High quality precious metals such as silver and gold are also said to amplify the energy of certain stones. Added bonus!

I’m also extremely fascinated with crystal healing and could read/research different crystals/stones for hours! My first taste of crystal healing was when I stumbled upon “hibiscus moon” on youtube (look her up, she’s knowledgable, beautiful and awesome!). I’m actually hoping to take her Crystal Academy Course one day. I’ve been accumulating crystals ever since, and I’ve had nothing but positive benefits! There is something so mysterious and beautiful about these little bundles of energy, and I’m hooked!

Chia Seed Jam

* Warning! This is the best jam ever, and may result in you being so satisfied that you never buy another sugar-packed store bought jam again.*

 When I was a kid I loved my chia pet… but now I love my chia jam! This recipe is a healthy alternative to traditional jams which are often loaded with refined sugars. It’s super simple, nutrient-dense and incredibly scrumptious!

       The three magic ingredients:

• 1 Cup Frozen Raspberries
• 1 TBS Chia Seeds
• 1 TBS Raw Honey

       Steps:

• Thaw out the berries (or heat them slightly on the stove if you’re in a hurry and don’t  mind the recipe not being raw). 
• Once thawed, begin to mash the berries with a fork.
• Stir in chia seeds and raw honey.
• Add a bit of love ♥
• Let sit for 5-10 minutes (thickening time)

You can put this jam on muffins, toast, or eat it directly with a spoon.. Yum! Get creative and try it with blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, kiwis. The possibilities are endless!
